FECCA Conference 2019

PURPOSE. LEADERSHIP. PROGRESS: 40 years and beyond

I am delighted to invite you to attend the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia’s biennial conference PURPOSE. LEADERSHIP. PROGRESS: 40 years and beyond, taking place in Hobart Tasmania on 9-11 October 2019.

This year we are delighted to partner with the Multicultural Council of Tasmania, in what is our joint 40th year of progressing multiculturalism in Australia.

In 2019 we are shaking up how we do conferences. We listened to your feedback and we are making changes. This year you will hear from new speakers, young people and diverse voices that will shape our multicultural Australia into the future.

We also want to continue to lead the conversation on important issues, and your input, energy and passion is crucial in shaping those conversations. One of those issues is how we bridge the gap between multicultural Australians and Australia’s First Nations Peoples. We think this is an important alliance, and that through partnership, both communities can be stronger and more successful in achieving their goals.

We believe multiculturalism begins with recognising the rights and place in society held by Australia’s First Peoples and the rich cultural heritage that their communities have long nurtured.

The conference format will change this year. We will halve the oral presentations and will have more interactive sessions and workshops. This will enable us to work with the delegates to solve some of the most important issues, and leave Hobart with a clear strategy to achieve our goals. There will still be incredible speakers though, including those who have recently taken on huge campaigns and executed them successfully.

The conference will also provide opportunities to share knowledge and best practice, to highlight challenges and to explore possibilities with a network of organisations and individuals who share a common vision – a prosperous, creative and progressive multicultural Australia.

We are proud to partner with innovative organisations like SBS to bring you the best experience, best speakers and practitioners, ample time to network and a conference to remember.

We thank the Multicultural Council of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government for this wonderful opportunity and I look forward to welcoming you to Hobart in October.
